In 1992, Tempur-Pedic founded a company that specialized in delivering customized, pressure-relieving hugs that conformed to your body. The entry-level hybrid mattress from Tempur-Adapt (that can also be purchased as an all-foam option) has won both our group tests over the past two weeks. This brings TempurAdapt reviews into line with the more expensive models offered by Tempur-Pedic in stores, demonstrating that you don’t have to fork out a lot to get the patented memory foam of Tempur-Pedic.

Tempur-Adapt
Very Comfortable but Expensive
A luxurious mattress with slow-sinking foam and durable edge support, the Tempur-Adapt (Medium Hybrid) is a mattress that is designed for comfort and support. The cost of a boxed foam mattress is twice as high as a foam one.
A Tempur-Adapt entry-level mattress is available in two designs (part of the three-line “Adapt” collection): a medium foam mattress or a foam-on-coil, medium hybrid mattress. Assertive hugging and conforming to their bodies are what make them love or hate by sleepers. (Most testers loved it.) We recommend the Medium Hybrid option in our guide to the best memory-foam mattresses because it has springs and is a little easier to move on than the Regular. With Tempur, your body contours more deeply and finer than with other brands of memory foam. This mattress also has a thicker memory foam layer, and it may last longer than most on-line mattresses, especially if you weigh over 200 pounds. However, the price of $2,200 (no sales) isn’t very entry-level. Also, the return policy for Tempur-Adapt is extensive, so you should test it out before buying. It is possible to buy Tempur-Adapt mattresses at thousands of bedding and department stores nationwide in addition to more than 50 Tempur-Pedic stores.

When I was Wirecutter’s sleep writer, I found myself sleeping on the Tempur-Adapt in Medium Hybrid for well over a week. Tempur-Adapt (Medium Hybrid) was tested on two separate occasions at our New York City test facility by more than 30 individuals. The Raymour & Flanigan company offered me the opportunity to try the entire collection of Tempur-Pedic mattresses. My role in the mattress business is to visit mattress manufacturers, mattress stores, and mattress trade shows as an impartial professional. Since I spent many decades working as a health journalist, I spend hours each week researching papers and conferences related to sleep and bedding, as well as interviewing professional consultants on both sides of the mattress and sleep industries.
Tempur-Adapt
Is it Recommended? Definitely.
Its purpose. You can use it whether you like a firmer mattress or if you sleep on your back, stomach, or side. Tempur-Adapt, a foam-on-coil hybrid that offers King and Queen-sized beds, comes in both all-foam and hybrid options. During our group testing in 2019, we found that the Medium Hybrid was easier to move on than the foam version due to the springiness of the coils. If you have sore muscles or other musculoskeletal concerns, then either mattress can provide you with a hugging and pressure-relieving feel. In both versions, people weighing over 200 pounds can use the product. For people who rotate a lot or prefer memory foam that isn’t so “stuck”, the Medium Hybrid would be an excellent choice. You will feel huggy and accentuated when wearing the medium.
What it feels like. While you may prefer the firmness of the Tempur-Adapt Medium or the Medium Hybrid, it has more give than you might expect thanks to the medium-firm memory foam’s gradual hug. (One staff member said that once you sink into the Medium Hybrid, it is quite comfortable.) The springs don’t have as much bounce as those in most other hybrids, like Leesa, but they do make rolling over a bit easier compared with the Medium.
Why we like it. In addition to providing slow-sinking pressure relief (aside from the new Tempur-Cloud), Tempur-Adapt in Medium and Medium Hybrid mattresses are among the most affordable mattresses from Tempur-Pedic. Six other hybrid mattresses were tested in blind group tests (the Leesa Hybrid, the Casper Hybrid, the Casper Wave Hybrid, the Allswell Luxe Hybrid, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, and the Helix Midnight). Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid and Leesa Hybrid both performed well. Aside from being comfortable to sleep on, my husband also liked sleeping on the medium-firm hybrid (although he would prefer it to be a bit springier). In particular, if the mattress was transported in cold conditions, it may feel stiff at first. Then, after a few days, it resembled a medium-firm mattress–firm enough to support my back, but soft enough to cushion my shoulders.
In addition to the memory foam in both of these mattresses, both mattresses also contain 213 pounds of polyfoam per cubic foot, which is denser than that in other mattresses, making them more durable for people weighing more than 100 kilograms. A Tempur-Adapt mattress’ edge did not fold under body weight, unlike cheaper foam mattresses. As my son fell between my husband and me during the night, I was able to stay in bed because of the sturdy edge. (Most online foam mattresses feature three pounds per cubic foot of memory foam.) Although it was noisy in our beds, I was able to stay in bed until the morning even though everyone was tossing and turning. Memory-foam mattresses did not cause me, or my husband, who sleeps hotter, any discomfort during sleep.
As the memory foam in Tempur-Pedic mattresses (and memory foam in general in general) is polarizing, the Tempur-Adapt mattresses provide the opportunity to try them in a store near you. In addition, since the company itself has been around for nearly three times as long as the industry standard warranty – a 10-year one – is reassuring. Each Tempur-Pedic mattress has that advantage.
Our dislikes. Tempur-Adapt is twice expensive as foam as well as hybrid mattresses, based on our tests. You can add the same hug to any mattress with Tempur-Pedic’s mattress toppers, which cost about $400. The return process with Tempur is less hassle-free than those of other online mattress brands. Tempur-Pedic mattresses have high shipping costs, and you’ll have to pay them if you decide to return them. The return policy of a third-party retailer applies to the Tempur-Pedic mattresses purchased there.
The Owner’s Feedback About Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid
Before recommending the Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid, we looked through hundreds of reviews on Amazon and Tempurpedic.com. Unlike most other brand sites, this one includes both positive and negative comments. Then, we eliminated reviewers who didn’t provide reasons for their ratings or those who seemed biased (such as those submitted to sweepstakes), and pinpointed 36 qualitative reviews to be considered.
As you can see, there isn’t scientific basis for this sample, and the responses were quite diverse. (For example, roughly equal numbers of reviewers complained that the Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid was too firm and too soft.) However, the reviews do indicate that heat retention may be a common complaint. As we read reviews, we also found that heat retention was a concern. It is best to purchase the Tempur-Adapt directly from Tempur-Pedic or carefully check the return policy of the third-party retailer in order to ensure you won’t encounter problems returning it if it doesn’t work for you. Innerspring mattresses retain less heat than foam mattresses, so they may be the better choice. For more information on mattress types, we have posted a post. There is also a “cooling” mattress made by Tempur-Pedic, but it isn’t as certain as the others.
Tempur-ProAdapt
Is it recommended? Both foam and hybrid versions of this mattress are available, and we have not yet tried Tempur-ProAdapt. A Tempur-ProAdapt mattress could be the perfect solution for your sleep problems. It has body-conforming foam which conforms to your body, and the cover can be machine washed.
Its purpose. The Tempur-ProAdapt mattress is available in three firmness levels (Soft, Medium, and Firm), as well as in a Medium Hybrid. It’s best to choose a Soft, Medium, or Medium Hybrid mattress for side sleepers. Although it may be too firm for stomach and back sleepers (even though these sleepers may find it too firm), the Firm has a more rigid feel with a less clingy memory foam sink.
The mattress is not a good choice for people who move around a lot while they sleep because its memory-foam sink is even more pronounced than that of the Tempur-Adapt, though the hybrid allows for slightly better mobility. The bed is suitable for people of various sizes, including those who weigh over 200 pounds.
The way it feels. Tempur-Adapt’s memory foam sink and hyper body-conforming design make ProAdapt even more body-conforming. Despite its medium-softness, we did not feel overly compressed. A Medium Hybrid mattress is similar, though the springs add more support to it and make it feel less “stuck.”. In comparison to the Medium, the Soft is slightly cushier, but the Firm is very firm.
Why we like it. Therefore, we cannot evaluate the effectiveness of the Tempur-ProAdapt mattresses. Even people weighing over 200 pounds will feel more comfortable on it due to its thickness and huggability. Tempur-ProAdapt® mattresses in the soft and medium sizes provide good edge support, even though their durability does not seem as good as that of their medium and medium hybrid competitors. Adapt Queen has only two firmness options: medium and medium hybrid, while ProAdapt Queen has three options, including a hybrid option. (Users indicate that this cover’s zip-off feature may not always work properly to control ambient temperature).
Our dislikes. Tempur-ProAdapt mattresses are three times as expensive as most online mattresses, costing $3,000 for a queen. Tempur foam might be worth considering if you enjoy its body-conforming properties. When sitting up in bed with a laptop, for instance, using Soft or Medium versions can make it difficult for you to work comfortably because you sink deep into the encapsulating foam. The medium and medium hybrid options would have been better options than the Firm (hard, as one reviewer described it). When returning any Tempur-Pedic mattress, you will have to pay shipping charges.
User Reviews of The Tempur-Pro Adapt
There are 32 quality reviews available for the Tempur-ProAdapt, which is not a large number of reviews. However, there are a number of interesting trends that we noticed.
Tempur-ProAdapt reviewers also cited the mattress as being “too hot,” with eight of them saying as much. The cooling technology may not work for everyone, so upgrading the cover just for a cooler bed is not recommended. Many reviews recommend soft mattresses, which is what I experienced when trying a firm mattress in the store.
Tempur-LuxeAdapt
Is it recommended? There is still no group-testing or sleeping experience for the Tempur-LuxeAdapt, which promises denser foam and similar contouring to the ProAdapt (at a higher price). Nonetheless, after trying it in the store, we give it a preliminary no.
Its purpose. People who sleep in a variety of positions. On one hand, the Soft sleeps sideways, and on the other, the Firm sleeps backwards or stomachwards. It should held up to people of different sizes, including those who weigh more than 200 pounds.
What it feels like. With Tempur-LuxeAdapt, there are two firmness options, but they differ less than with Tempur-ProAdapt. There is a moderate degree of softness in the Soft; the Firm is slightly firmer than the Tempur-ProAdapt Firm. Unlike the ProAdapt, these mattresses provide less give, but still provide the same sinking sensation.
Why we like it. LuxeAdapt also features even denser foam than the Adapt, which suggests longer durability, especially for those weighing more than 200 pounds. The cover can be machine washed after being taken off and zip off.
Our dislikes. As the next step down from LuxeAdapt, Tempurclaims the ProAdapt provides “30 percent more conforming support”. Despite that, we’re not yet convinced that most people will be able to justify the difference in price. On the other hand, the extra $800 it takes to upgrade from the Tempur-Adapt to the Tempur ProAdapt makes a noticeable difference right away. This mattress uses Tempur-APR+ foam for its support layer. It is supposed to be an improvement over ProAdapt, but I didn’t notice any difference. Try the Tempur-Adapt or the Tempur ProAdapt for a competitively priced bed.
Tempur-Luxe Adapt Owner Feedback
In comparison with reviewers writing about lower-cost models, the Tempur-LuxeAdapt received far fewer reviews. Adapt still had a heat retention issue, but the problem was not as obvious as with ProAdapt and Adapt. From online mattress reviews, we were unable to discern a trend, and the mattress you are referring to can be determined. She and her partner (both 240 pounds) returned to the Firm because they found it to be too firm for them (she weighs 8 pounds less than I do). The Soft, however, feels more cushioned and supportive to them.
Tempur-Breeze
Is it recommended? Tempur-Pedic says its mattresses promote a cooler sleep environment, but we haven’t yet had the chance to test it. However, we cannot guarantee such a outcome at this stage.
Its purpose. With hot sleepers on the rise, Tempur-Pedic created both ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze (which are the company’s newest mattress lines). Our review will be based on the results of sleeping on the ProBreeze and LuxeBreeze mattresses. These mattresses are dense enough to guarantee durability for people weighing up to 200 pounds and for different weights. The ProBreeze promises up to 3 degrees of comfort all night, and the LuxeBreeze promises up to 8 degrees of comfort all night.
What it feels like. Both the Medium and the Medium Hybrid were on display at the store. I believe they both fall into the medium category, although the Medium seemed softer than the Medium Hybrid. The LuxeBreeze Mattress comes in two different firmness levels. There does not seem to be a problem with the two at the same time. There is a slight difference in the level of firmness between the LuxeBreeze Firm and the LuxeBreeze Soft when compared to ProLuxe Firm.
Our favorite things. The foam in these Breeze lines is similar to that in non-Breeze lines.
Our dislikes. The cooling technology has not yet been tested, so we can’t assess its effectiveness just yet. Breeze’s premium price (between $500 and $800 over standard equivalents) doesn’t convince us the extra cash is worth it. As the heat transfer capacity reaches its optimum, the mattress will become warm again and Roy Raymann, PhD, selected the best sleep tracker. As vice president of sleep science at SleepScore, he has published scientific papers on sleep temperature. Getting rid of the heat would significantly improve the situation, he says. Keeping a promise of “up to” 3 or 8 degrees seems noncommittal. Some people may not like this kind of improvement, and you won’t know until you give it a shot for a few hours.
Owner Feedback on Temper-Breeze
Tempur-LuxeAdapt mattresses receive fewer reviews than Breeze mattresses due to their lower price points. It had 13 quality reviews on its website and on Reddit, but not nearly enough to determine trends. The bed line’s heat-reduction capabilities, however, were not its greatest selling point. The other Tempur lines also emphasize support and comfort. Four out of 13 reviews rated the Breeze mattress a plus, which is not too much different from the complaints about it being too hot. If you decide to exchange the mattress because of poor heat retention, you will be charged shipping fees. A better bet would be to use a fan while sleeping or try an innerspring mattress, which has the advantage of retaining less heat.
Tempur-Cloud
The first product produced by Tempur-Pedic is the Tempur-Cloud bed in a box. In response to social-distancing laws and customer preferences, Tempur-Cloud has rolled out its Tempur-Cloud across the country to comply with its earlier launch in select cities. Due to the fact that we have not tried the new mattress yet, we contacted the firm to learn more about its construction materials. Following are our knowledges.
The Tempur-Adapt is about $200 less expensive (for a queen) than Tempur-Pedic’s cheapest conventionally delivered line. The Tempur-Cloud mattress is ten inches instead of eleven. A “moisture-wicking” mattress cover will be used rather than one that is “cool-to-the-touch,” which does not inevitably translate to cheaper mattresses. In addition, a downgrade in the cover, like the other things on the mattress, doesn’t always mean that it will be cooler as the night goes on.
To transport the Cloud, it is packed in Tempur-Pedic’s proprietary Tempur memory foam. New foam has a density of 3.75 pounds per cubic foot, as opposed to 4.5 pounds per cubic foot for Tempur-Adapt. When it comes to durability, most people shouldn’t notice the difference in density, especially if they weigh less than 200 pounds. However, with time, heavier people may develop body impressions or sagging, since experts recommend that people of this weight category maintain a density of 4 pounds per cubic foot. Representatives from Tempur-Cloud tell us, however, that the Tempur-Cloud feels firmer than the Tempur-Adapt despite its medium density, so these issues with durability may not occur.
We do not think the Tempur-Adapt will appeal to those who prefer softer mattresses because it is already a medium-firm mattress. Once we’re able to use the mattress, we’ll confirm these recommendations.
Returns, Warranties, and Shipping
With the exception of Tempur-Cloud mattresses (though policies and timing vary based on local distribution practices), the company’s “white glove” service delivers Tempur-Pedic mattresses. You will receive free delivery when purchasing directly from Tempur-Pedic (if you live in Hawaii or Alaska, you will have to pay $600). Moving companies will set up your new mattress for you if you like and take away your old one if you wish. If you decide to return your Tempur-Pedic mattress, possibly keep it for future reference.
You can return or exchange a mattress within 30 days of purchasing it, but you cannot get money back if you return it after 90 days. If Tempur-Pedic cannot rectify the problem (by exchanging the mattress for another model or by suggesting a mattress topper purchase), and movers will pick up the mattress, Tempur-Pedic will pay the return shipping costs.
Furthermore, Tempur-Pedic provides free mattress repairs if there’s a defect, just like most mattress companies. Depending on the costs associated with shipping, you may need to pay them.
